Cousin Watch: The Régniers Are Still Alive... and So Is My Family Tree!

Another Tuesday, another episode of The Amazing Race Canada, and I'm pleased to report that my entirely unofficial family reunion is still going strong.

As many of you know, I have adopted Sacha and Sébastien Régnier as my honorary cousins. After all, we're all Red River Métis, we share the same last name, and they even replied to one of my Instagram posts with...

"COUSINS. Thank you for your support."

That's it.

It's official.

No genealogy required.

Last night's race took everyone to Montréal and Laval, where the racers were introduced to one of my favourite Amazing Race twists ... the Intersection. Suddenly, teams had to work together with another team, proving that sometimes your biggest competition can also become your biggest ally.

The Intersection forces two teams to work together and complete a challenge as partners before they can continue racing.

And who gets paired together?

The Régnier brothers... and Chayla & Chyana.

I couldn't have scripted it any better.

For one beautiful moment, I didn't have to decide who I was cheering for because they were all on the same team!

My honorary cousins teamed up with my favourite sisters, and together they tackled the challenge with the calm teamwork that has made both teams so enjoyable to watch.

As a fellow Red River Métis, I have to admit it was pretty special seeing all four Indigenous racers working side by side. Representation matters, and seeing two Indigenous teams supporting each other was one of my favourite moments of the season so far.

Of course, once the Intersection ended, my dilemma returned.

Do I cheer for the cousins?

Or the sisters?

The answer, as always...

Yes.

The cousins continued to do what they've been doing all season: staying calm, racing smart, and looking like genuine contenders. Every week they seem to prove they're not just athletic—they're strategic. I'm beginning to think my imaginary family has a pretty good shot at this!

But let's not forget my other favourites...

Chayla and Chyana continue to make me proud. The Cree and Métis sisters made a smart Detour choice and worked their way into a solid fifth-place finish. I love watching them race because they never seem to panic. They just put their heads down and keep moving forward.

As someone cheering for Indigenous representation, it's been wonderful watching two Indigenous teams continue to race so well. Whether it's the Régnier brothers or the sisters, both teams are showing determination, resilience, and a great sense of humour.

And then came the best news of the night.

Nobody was eliminated.

That means I don't have to choose between my honorary cousins and my favourite sisters for at least one more week!

My unofficial scoreboard remains exactly the same:

🏁 Team Régnier (because... cousins.)

🏁 Team Chayla & Chyana (because... girl power.)

Am I sitting on the fence?

Absolutely.

Am I okay with that?

Also absolutely.

I'll be back next week for another Cousin Watch update. Hopefully there will be more memorable moments, another great performance from one (or both!) of my favourite teams, and maybe—just maybe—another reason to embarrass my new cousins on the internet.
