James Jacko - Odawa-Pottawatomi Artist

James Jacko is an Odawa and Potawatomi artist from the Three Fires Confederacy and a member of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. A self-taught artist, James began painting in 1977, although creativity and artistic expression have been lifelong passions explored through a variety of mediums.

A recurring theme throughout his work is Creation, reflecting both his cultural heritage and his deep connection to the natural and spiritual world. James draws inspiration from the strong influence of his family, whose talents in arts, crafts, trades, and traditional practices instilled in him a respect for detail, dedication, and craftsmanship. The rich cultural traditions and natural beauty of his home community continue to be among his greatest sources of inspiration.

Over the course of his career, James's artwork has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and art shows throughout North America. His work can be found in private and corporate collections around the world, earning recognition for its distinctive style and cultural significance.

Today, James continues to create from his home community on Manitoulin Island, where he remains closely connected to the people, traditions, and landscapes that have shaped his artistic vision.
