“My name is Shelly, also known as Yasakw in Kwakwaka’wakw and Guudangaay Tlaatsgaa Jaad in Haida, meaning “Strong Minded Woman.” I come from the Haida matrilineal society, belonging to the Raven, Three Fin Killer Whale, and Dogfish clans.
From my Kwakwaka’wakw father’s side, I belong to the Thunderbird, and Grizzly Bear clans. I practice formline art daily and explore new art forms. I live on Haida Gwaii with my family.”
