Collection: Betty Albert
Betty Albert-Licenz is a Cree artist whose journey of self-discovery is deeply reflected in her work. Adopted and raised by French-Canadian parents in Northern Ontario, she later spent time on Vancouver Island, where her passions for art and spirituality first began to flourish. Over the next two decades, she developed her artistic skills, working primarily in pen and ink while refining her distinctive creative style.
Life eventually led Betty back to her Indigenous roots and to her birth father, reconnecting her with her Cree heritage. This profound experience inspired a new chapter in her artistic career. Together with her father, she founded Wabimeguil Art Studio, sharing their artwork with audiences across North America.
Like many Cree people, Betty draws inspiration from dreams, which play a significant role in both her life and her art. She discovered that the figures appearing in her dreams were often faceless, a powerful element that can be seen throughout her work. Through vibrant acrylic colours and expressive imagery, Betty invites viewers to experience Indigenous traditions, movement, and spirituality. Her art offers a unique perspective on creation, encouraging us to see the world with renewed wonder and understanding.
