Jackie Traverse is a multidisciplinary Anishinaabe artist from Lake St. Martin First Nation who lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her artwork draws upon both traditional and contemporary influences, reflecting her experiences as an Indigenous woman navigating urban life while remaining deeply connected to her culture and community.

Working across a wide range of mediums, Jackie creates paintings, drawings, mixed media works, sculptures, and stop-motion animations. Her art often explores themes of identity, resilience, family, and social justice, combining personal experiences with broader cultural narratives.

Widely recognized throughout Canada, Jackie has produced powerful works that address important Indigenous issues and lived experiences. Her acclaimed stop-motion animations include projects focused on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the Sixties Scoop, and Empty, a deeply personal tribute to her estranged mother. Through her work, she creates space for reflection, dialogue, and healing.

Committed to education and community engagement, Jackie shares her knowledge through art programs and workshops in schools and community settings. By blending traditional Indigenous teachings with contemporary artistic expression, she helps foster cultural understanding and inspires people of all backgrounds to connect with Indigenous perspectives and stories.
